Mikey About 3 yrs old, Mikey arrived here a bundle of nerves, a result of his history. Mikey has settled down quite a bit, though he does still get himself wound up at the sight of a leash or, his very favorite thing in the world: PEOPLE. Mikey adores people, but is over exuberant. As it is now, he calms the moment someone just puts a hand on his side - a sign that he is just starving for affection. He is a lovely friendly boy, black with white speckles on his coat, who gets along with all the other dogs. ELSA is a purebred german shepherd and is 4 years old. She is a lively girl and enjoys lots of exercise. She loves going for spins and is very inquisite on what is happening around her. She has just been spayed and vaccinated. She gets on well with other dogs. Elsa is very bright and learns easily and will make some lucky person a fabulous friend and companion. Harvey Harvey is an 18 month old male cat who is a very playful, happy young cat that loves affection, but is also happy to sit in the background and watch the world go by. He is looking for a new home as his owner had to move back to England and sadly couldnt take him. We found him a home but there was already a 6 year old cat who unfortunately she did not get on with him. Sofi Sofi arrived here more than a year ago, extremely fearful and traumatised. About 2 or 3 years old, Sofi is excellent with all dogs here, though she does pull on the leash. Sally Sally is almost 3 yrs old and was found as a stray, most of her hair missing due to mange. She now sports a fine deep black coat, and more importantly, an excellent personality. Sally is one of the most sensible dogs here, well able to play with the gang but also quite willing to remove herself and go curl up in a bed by herself at times. Ben Ben is a 3 and a half year old terrier x. Ben is being rehomed through no fault of his own. He is neutered, vaccinated and house trained. He loves attention and will make a great little companion. Update: We cannot say enough good things about Ben who is currently in foster. Not a bad bone in his body and gets on great with other dogs. Ailish Ailish is approaching 3 yr old and is a very confident, absolutely fearless little madam. Small in stature but with the heart of a lion, Ailish is extremely bright, very cheerful, and gets along with all the other dogs here because she is certain she is the Queen of the Greyhounds. She was picked up as a stray in extremely poor condition, but is fully recovered and has an unusual black coat with shades of brindling in it. CHENA Chena is a german shepherd/golden retriever mix and is about 4 to 6 months old. Her sister Scout and brother Bear are also on this site looking for homes. Con Con is a handsome 3 year old Lab x, who is neutered and microchipped. He loves the company of other dogs and would be happiest in a home with a second playful dog. Dougie Dougie is a very active Wheaten Terrier crossbreed who needs a new home as his owner's health has deteriorated. He's 2 years old, housetrained, and indoors most of the time. He obeys commands if he feels like it!! Quite an independent boy, adores children, and responds well to male leadership. Can be a bit narky with other dogs- depending on his form on the day!...so it would be best for Dougie to be an only dog. Frequent brushing will be required as his coat is semi long. Cool Dude Cool Dude is a 3 yr old male ex racing greyhound. His coat is white and black and he is a beautiful looking dog. Cool Dude came to us from the racing kennels so he is adjusting to life at the sanctuary. We must say that he loves being pampered and adores human company. He can be a bit giddy, but he is learning lots and experiencing so many new exciting things so this is understandable. We feel once he gets used to his new life and knows its here to stay he will relax and become a real Cool Dude. He is energetic and loves his walks and runs of lead. BRIGHEEN Look at this one! You would think she was the most confident one in town! Brigheen is very sweet and very shy but has come on in leaps and bounds since she has been with us. She cowers a lot at first as if she had been abused. But once she has got a bit of attention and cuddling she will be all over you. She is very frightened of the lead still but is improving. Brigheen has been spayed and is after her first vaccine. She loves other male dogs and will lick them to bits once she has gained their trust. Penny Penny is a lovely little mixed breed dog, she is about eighteen months old and she is Beagle-sized. We think she may have some Beagle in her. She is a very sweet and placid girl who gets along well with other dogs. Penny needs a very patient owner who will help her to over come her tail chasing obsession, an owner who is home all day and will help Penny to stop this habit. Sabhdh Sabhdh (rhymes with five), means 'deer' in Irish, and this leggy lady with her long neck and slim lines only needs some antlers to look like one! Almost 5 yrs old, Sabhdh is eager to please and loves attention. She is playful with the other dogs, but not overly so, and looks you straight in the eye when you are speaking to her. Very cheerful, tail always wagging, great on the leash and in the car, she could be a very good model for a younger dog to follow. Kelly Just two and a half years old, recently-arrived Kelly arrived here in early December 2009 as a stray, with a very poor and raggedy coat, irritated skin, hungry as a horse, and so tired you could knock her over with a feather. She is a very small lady, quiet, biddable, appreciative, and yet well able to share living space with 5 very robust and active greyhounds. Kelly is exceptionally keen about toileting outside and is very quiet on the leash, so much so a child could walk her. This little darling will make a lovely quiet companion. Blondie Blondie is a 3 yr old ex racing greyhound. She has a gorgeous white and fawn coat and has a lovely expression. Blondie came to us from the racing kennels and has settled in very well at the sanctuary. She loves all the attention and hussle and bussle of sanctuary life. Blondie is very friendly and sociable and loves meeting people. She is an active girl and gets very excited when she sees the leads coming as she knows its time for walks. Tango Tango is very lively and bouncy and a very friendly little dog. He absolutely loves his cuddles and will climb into your lap and stay there for ages being cuddled. Arrian Arrian is a magnificent 2 yr old pussycat. About 30 inches/76 cm tall at the top of his back, he towers over several of the dogs here. Arriving a bit frightened of people due to having been very badly treated, he is still a littel shy, but friendly. He gets along well with the other dogs, is good on the leash and in the car, and although he has gotten loose twice, stayed nearby and was very easy to get back. Now a sensible and affectionate boy, he would need a relaxed home and confident owner. Skye Skye is a neutered male cat, tabby and white approx 2 years old. He is litter trained and very affectionate. Skye loves attention, but his first love is food! Skye is FIV positive so anyone who wishes to adopt him will need to understand that he will need a little more TLC than your average cat. However he is in perfect health and should remain that way for a long time. This beautiful boy has bucket loads of love to give to anyone who is willing to take him on. Ciara Ciara is a small-medium 6 year old who is a well-behaved and well socialised lady. Very good on the leash and in the car, Ciara adjusted to life here very easily, and blended immediately with the other dogs. No shrinking violet, however, she can run hard and play hard with the rest of them, though seems to be well able to keep the hooligans in line should they start playing a bit too hard. She does not have a tendency to jump up or be over-exuberant, (though she loves a good roll in the grass) and so might do well in a family with smaller children. Undemanding and yet appreciative of the attention she gets, Ciara is a solid citizen who would do well in almost any home. Dylan UPDATE: Dylan, our lurcher, is now a new dog, seen here with his best friend Misty. Dylan's black and white coat is now glossy and healthy and he has put on lots of weight. Skipper 'Scuse me but I think I have a fly on my nose !!! Skipper is a very lucky pup - he was found abandoned in an emacitated condition, and he was only a wee pup about 2 months old. The people who found him brought him home to give him the care, love and attention he needed to survive. Well, 3 months later just look at this very handsome young dog. He is now about 5 months old and while his fosterers would love to keep him, they also have an elderly dog who cannot cope with the antics of a young pup. Skipper loves people, has lived with children and loves playing with other dogs. EARTH Sweet, 2 year old, black boy. Earth is a dainty lad and smaller than your average male greyhound. He had damaged his front left leg before coming to us, and it has healed in a slightly misaligned fashion. This former injury doesn�t hamper Earth in anyway and he loves going for walks with the rest of his kennel mates. Earth has yet to be cat tested. Sam Sam is a 4yr old boy...either Gordon Setter X Collie, or Bernese X Collie. Not as big as he looks in photos- he's just slightly more than medium size. He's such a super dog!! Would be brilliant at agility or something involving work and putting his talents to use! He's very stimulated by training, focussed and attentive, and food & toy oriented. Very well behaved and eager to please....a bit strong on the lead but welcomes correction and guidance. Micho Micho � Dr Jeckel or Mr Hyde? February this year, Micho found himself abandoned and in need of the ACS to take him under their wing. Micho won us all over by being very friendly and full of purrs, following his carers round as would a dog and often looking for attention, but it was obvious from the start that Micho wasn�t the shy, timid type and that he clearly knew his own mind. Unfortunately, Micho�s own mind is his hindrance � Micho likes things, Micho�s way and isn�t one to be forced into doing something that he doesn�t want to do � trying to make him brings out his Mr Hyde side and he will lash out, full guns blazing! On top of that, he isn�t the biggest fan of other animals either � he needs to be dominant and is quite happy to fight his way to the top! Due to Micho�s ways, he has become a huge problem to re-home. Could you give Micho the home he�s longing for? Micho loves the outdoors, which we are unable to provide for him. He needs a home where he is allowed to come and go as he likes, where there are no other pets and no young children who may pick him up or fuss him when he just wants to be left alone. Hafti Approx 4yrs old. Poor Hafti came in with very sore gums and teeth. It is obvious that his diet did nothing to help his oral hygiene. We are treating his mouth with a wash and will have the problem sorted and make him more comfortable before he has his appointment with a vet to have the teeth cleaned as soon as possible. He is a gentleman and would love to be a couch potatoe, where at last, he won`t have to always run the track to please his owner. All our dogs are vaccinated, neutered/spayed, flea & worm treated. Jimbo Jimbo is an elderly gentleman who is looking for a retirement home where he will have a warm soft cozy bed to sleep in every night. Hades Hades is a neutered male cat approx 18 months old. He is a stunning black, sleek cat with a lanky build. Hades is FIV positive but in perfect health, in fact he pretty much bounces. Phoebe 5 month old Lab mix Phoebe is a loving girl with bundles of typical Lab energy. She's leadtrained, wormed & flead, and vaccinated. Keva Keva is a 6 mth old female German Shepherd. She was found wandering with her sister Kezzie who is also featured here. She looks much bigger in this picture than she actually is but as you can see she is an absolute stunner. Keva and her sister are currently in foster and coming on in leaps and bounds. Keva is very good on the lead and off lead is very good on recall. She will grow into a big dog so needs someone who will have the time to train her properly and give her plenty of exercise. Ivan Ivan is a very sociable and loving 18 month old staffie male who loves curling up on the sofa with you for cuddles.He's extremely good on lead and doesnt pull at all even if a cat runs out in front of him. In the garden he's eager to play fetch and play with the other dogs. Ideally he would be best suited to a home with older children as he might knock younger ones over. Clareen Only turning 2 yrs old in January 2010, Clareen is a very busy girl! Despite her small size, Miss Curiosity is always on the move looking for something to do, something to play with, someone to play with, a person to follow around, a person to smother with kisses, a dog to run with...whatever. Faye Faye is two years old and is an ex racing greyhound. She has a blue grey coat, amazing eyes and is a striking looking girl. Faye is a very lively girl, very energetic and is always on the go. Gavin Having just turned 1 in April 2009, Gavin is a very happy and biddable boy. He gets along with the other dogs in his group but does try to get away with being a bit bossy. Great on the leash and in the car too, Gavin loves water, and often has his front legs IN the water bucket. Meg Meg is a three year old ex racing greyhound. She's a shy quiet gentle girl. We feel Meg hasn't had much socialisation until she came to the sanctuary. However she is learning fast at the sanctuary and we hope in no time Meg will be a happy girl. Meg's coat is in poor condition, she has very little hair in her rear quarters. Dunno Little Dunno is a prime example of why we insist on a totally enclosed back garden. This 4 month old little boy was found on the street after being hit by a car. No owner was found and no id on the dog ment that LAW had to take him to the vet where his leg, which had a very nasty wound, had to be dressed every day for the last 4 weeks. He is making a great recovery and we think he will be a lot happier when he finds a nice safe home with responsible people who will take good care of him. Pip and Rossie Pip and Rossie as far as we can gather are mother and son. Pip is the white terrier and is approx 5 years old. Rossie is about 2 years of age. Both were seen being dumped on a beach along with rubbish!!! It was a very cold evening but thankfully a kind passer by tipped us off. Both are good with other dogs and cats. They are a little shy until they know they can trust you. Pip is good on the lead but Rossie is still quite nervous of the lead. It will take a little patience. Both are excellent dogs and we cannot say enough good things about them. As Pip is so devoted to her son Rossie we want to make sure these two are homed together. Ella Ella is a very pretty 3 year old staffie. Ella adores people and loves attention. She can get quite excitable and bouncy so would not suit younger children but children over 12 would be fine as she does love to play. JUDY is a very cute Japanese Spitz female and she is 5 years old, she is lead trained but will require some house training, she is a very cute lady and will suit any family that have children over the age of 8 years old and she is used to other dogs. Kelly Just two and a half years old, recently-arrived Kelly arrived here in early December 2009 as a stray, with a very poor and raggedy coat, irritated skin, hungry as a horse, and so tired you could knock her over with a feather. She is a very small lady, quiet, biddable, appreciative, and yet well able to share living space with 5 very robust and active greyhounds. Kezzie Kezzie, a beauty, is a six month old German Shepherd found wandering with her brother Keva (also featured here). Kezzie is not as sure of herself as her brother is. She spooks very easily at the moment and will need a patient owner to make her more confident. But her personlity is showing more every day. Petal Petal is a three year old ex racing greyhound. She has a lovely white coat with black markings. Petal is a lively very sociable girl. She loves meeting people and adores being fussed over. Petal is very energetic and really enjoys her runs in the fields. She loves her walks on the lead and is very well behaved. Petal gets on great with her kennel mates. She is a really nice girl and we feel Petal will settle into family life very quickly. She will be spayed and a home check will be required before Petal goes to her new home. Molly Molly is a six year greyhound. She is a ex brood bitch. Molly is a very quiet retiring girl. She likes to take life easy now, so we are looking for a quiet relaxed home for her. Molly would do really well with an other older dog for company, or would do equally well as an only dog. She doesn't like to play too much, so would not suit a home with younger playful dogs. Molly loves spending time with people and we know once she gets settled in her new home, she will make a wonderful companion. Molly is a very special girl and we hope we find her a very special retirement home as she deserves it. Molly will be spayed and a homecheck will be required before she goes to her new home. Benji Benji is a 5 year old ShitZu/Terrier mix breed. He is an indoor dog that loves nothing more than lounging around the house. Benji has mild arthritis that was diagnosed last year and takes a pain killer some days to help with the stiffness in his joints. He is a solitary dog and used to being an only dog. Hence, Benji does not get on with other dogs and therefore it is a must that he is homed as an only pet. Benji will need firm handling while walking as he gets distracted by other dogs and barks. Benji is a gorgeous looking dog who will do well in a home where he is the only dog and with someone who has time to work on his walks and let him know that he is not the head of the pack. He has been well cared for by his family since he was a pup but his owner is expecting a 2nd baby and doesnt have the time to give him the exercise he needs. Jack Jack is a three year old male greyhound. He is a big beautiful boy. Jack, before he came to us was confined for long periods in his kennels, so initially he was very giddy. However Jack is getting used to his new life at the sanctuary and is beginning to relax. Jack is a funny boy, he always has a big smile on his face. He loves people and adores being out and about with our volunteers. Jack gets on fine with his kennel mates. While Jack has a lot yet to learn about life away from the racing track, he is a smart boy and eager to learn. We know in the right home Jack will make a wonderful pet. RUSTY Rusty is a german/shorthaired mix and is three years old. He is a bright playful fellow and loves everyone, ie. cats, dogs, people, etc. He loves playing 'fetch' and loves playing with other dogs. He has been neutered and is also house-trained. Rusty had been rehomed but came back due to no fault of his own. So this time hopefully for Rusty it will be his forever home.
