ABOUT: The Animal Care Society (Registered Charity CHY14199) was born in 2000 from the concern of animal lovers in Cork. Up to 8,000 unwanted dogs and cats are born every year in this County. Two thirds of these animals end up on the streets, starving and in misery, or they are put down.

Our main activity is finding homes for cats and dogs, which have been abandoned, neglected or abused. We have a cattery in North Cork, we have a network of foster people throughout the County, and we run a Trap, Neuter and Release Scheme for feral cats. We do however handle calls on all animal species and work with the Dept of Agriculture in case of farm animals and with the ISPCA on general cruelty cases. We also give educational talks on animal welfare to schools and other organisations, and our helpline gives advice to the general public on all aspects of animal care and welfare.

WE NEED YOU! We are always in need of help, and lots of it! Listed below are some of the things with which we need help:

  • Home check visits
  • Short term fostering of cats and dogs
  • Animal transportation
  • Cat trapping & re-release
  • Volunteering for 2 hours, half a day or full day in our shop in Togher
  • Fund-raising for one-off events, like street collections, supermarket bag-packing sessions, etc.
  • Legal advice
  • Education programmes
