BLUE
Hi I'm Blue and I'm looking for a home. When they took off all my matted coat they found out that I'm a beautiful Kerry Blue Terrier about 2 years old. Whoever had me never had me groomed and let me stray. Now I'm being well minded and learning my manners but I'm great with people and other dogs and I've heard it said that's important! I probably need a home where you would be an experienced dog owner with lots of energy so I can take you for walks. I'm in Limerick but I don't mind travelling but there will be a home check first.... Thanks and woof! Please phone Judy for more info on how wonderful I am 087 7768951

Corky
This is Corky, a lovely shihtzu boy who has had a very rough life so far so he is looking for a very special home. I do not know exactly what Corkys history is but somewhere along the way he learnt to bite in response to real or perceived threats, so unfortunately for this gorgeous boy, he comes with a negative history. For the last few months Corky has been in foster with me, two resident dogs and various other foster dogs. I have been determined to break his destructive cycle by enforcing and encouraging positive behaviour using various techniques. Despite some set-backs along the way Corky has come such a long way in terms of his behaviour modification. I (and the other humans in the household) have endeavoured to establish ourselves as his pack leaders and give him boundaries. for example, we walk him regularly to ensure he has no pent-up energy (when he came first he was very over weight and could hardly walk), hes now a great walker and even loves to run!, he sits and waits for his food before being allowed to eat it, he can respond to many commands including sit, give the paw, hi-five, wait, go and lie. When Corky first arrived he would not leave anyone near him, but now he will ask to be cuddled (his two fluffy paws will suddenly appear on your knees when youre watching tv!) and he is extremely affectionate and a real little character when he gets going..he never showed interest in any toys but has shown a recent interest in a discarded pink flower-pot ! (it must be the colour!!). He allows me to brush him, wash him, keep his hair clipped over his eyes and even touch and dry his paws after his walks (they were a no-go area for weeks!)..he is still on the precious side over his tail thoughalthough we all might be if we had such a gorgeous mane! He has a beautiful coat but it will require some maintenance. I notice that for some reason Corky responds well especially to men (that being said the humans in the household are female!). He needs someone to give him some time and effort and especially to always follow-through on his current training and keep re-enforcing his positive behaviours instead of focusing on the negative. Corky can not be allowed near children or elderly people for the forseeable future for the reasons above. He does not like sudden movements but if approached slowly and non-confrontationally he is very well behaved and affectionate..he absolutely adores having his back scratched and takes food and treats from my hand extremely gently. He responds excellently to positive reinforcement and will sell his soul for a treat! He gets on well with other dogs but prefers calm dogs. We will never know his full story or why he sometimes feels so threatened but if you are prepared to give him love, time, boundaries, direction and be his pack-leader, he in turn will reward you with his unique character & his affection, and you will find yourself laughing at his antics, from the way he bunny-hops along with his back legs whilst paddling madly with his front ones!, to his liking for pink, to his teeth chattering when he gets something tasty to eat, to his gorgeous expression on his cute little face..the best of all though is the great welcome he has started to give me each morning.he bounds out of his crate and refuses to go outside until he has got his quota of cuddles and rubs! Corky is vaccinated, neutered and fully housetrained. He is crate-trained and is very quiet around the house.the perfect little dog in many ways. If you are looking for a little lap-dog then Corky is not for you, but if you are looking to give a very deserving little dog a second chance, have an interest in, or are willing to learn about animal behaviour, and are willing to put the time into keeping his training moving forward at all times and giving him the security he needs, then consider this little dog. Theres nothing quite like watching tv with a lovely fluffy Corky sleeping on your feet (his favourite place to sleep!) . Email: info@dogactionwelfaregroup.ie Tel: 0871199977

Rio
Rio is a 7 year old Pomeranian mixed breed, chunkier than a Pom, and what a stunner he is! And he's quite the character! Exceptionally gentle with smaller dogs, and very affectionate and well behaved with all people. He can be exciteable at times, and quacks loudly instead of barking! Strong and scatty on the lead but this is improving with training. He is house trained and loves car trips, he'll sit in the passenger seat looking out the window. He is making progress in all areas- he's a clever boy who only needs the continued guidance of a firm and kind owner who would be at home all day. Neutered and fully vaccinated.

Pretty Pippa
Pretty Pippa Pippa is a hound dog and it is rare that we have such a wonderful dog in the rescue. She is quite a young dog and when she came to us she was utterly traumatised. She was so fearful that she shook when approached and tucked her tail into her belly in an effort to make herself nigh invisible. She required veterinary treatment over a long period of time and was finally declared fit. Health wise she was fine, her psychological side was anything but. It took weeks of dedicated care to bring Pippa to the stage where, when approached, she did not attempt to run away. Life in the kennel was not going to improve Pippas quality of life and so we appealed for a foster home where she might learn to lose her fearfulness and gain trust in people. Pippa should have been well used to life in kennels but she just could not cope. Whatever had happened in her past had literally shut down her mind and she barely responded to people. The most wonderful young couple, Johanna and Tony, offered to foster Pippa and help her to become a normal dog. Pippa was to share her foster home with one little girl, one young boy, two parrots, two dogs and cats. She was, quite literally, offered a lifeline. Now, two months on, Pippa is completely transformed. Pippa has lived with this noisy, boisterous, happy family and is, because of their effort, a happy dog. She trusts people but still retains some fear of men but not of Tony. She has been trained to walk on a lead, to ignore traffic, to greet other dogs. In other words, her rehabilitation is complete. This timid, petrified dog has responded incredibly well to this family and is now a normal, happy dog. We met Pippa at a Maxi Zoo event in November and we were amazed at the transformation. Tail high and wagging, eyes shining, coat gleaming, she proudly strutted through the store and greeted every dog she met. She was petted by complete strangers, met Santa Claus and did not bat an eyelid. Pippa loves her home comforts, watching TV, playtime and walks. Johanna and her family have, through their tender care, broken through Pippas barriers and made her whole. People that foster are a special breed. They take a rescue dog, devote their time, effort, patience and love, their home and their hearts. They share their home with the foster animal as though they were their own and, when it comes time to say goodbye to that animal, having turned a dog or cat from a frightened, mentally damaged animal into a happy, playful one, they shed a tear and welcome yet another animal in need of fostering . Pippa is now ready for adoption and will be spayed before going to her new home. She is fully vaccinated, treated for worms and fleas and all she needs is a loving family to call her own.

Misty is a wonderful, mature Husky. She came to us in a very sad state-recently neutered, abandoned and full of mange. She's back to full health now and would make a lovely family pet. She's a strong dog though so will require a strong person to walk her. She is sweet and lovely and we have yet to hear her bark. She cries and cries with joy when she sees the lead, I don't think she saw the outside world much for her first few years. Misty has a medical condition called Vons Willebrand Disease. As Misty is in good health, this does not impact on her life right now. If Misty ever needs surgery in the future the vet will need to know in advance in order to provide the right care. Please help Misty and let, at least, the second half of her life be a happier time. Email: info@dogactionwelfaregroup.ie Tel: 0871199977

Bobby
This is Bobby, an absolutely lovely older terrier boy with a gorgeous rusty / golden coloured coat and a cute shaggy look. Bobby has only recently come into the care of DAWG, his coat was in a bad state and unfortunately he is almost blind I suspect he can only see shadows. That being said Bobby has adjusted amazingly well to life in his foster home, he knows his way around and is great with the other dogs in the house. Bobby needs a forever home with a nice cozy bed indoors, a secure garden he can potter around in and ideally someone to be at home a lot of the time as he loves to follow me around the house and keep his ears perked for new sounds..he loves the sound of the tv ! Alternatively hed like the company of another doggy friend, a non-boisterous well-adjusted dog might be best as Bobby can get spooked if appoached suddenly since he cannot see well. Bobby is really a very low maintenance dog who loves his snoozes. He is almost fully toilet trained. Bobby absolutely adores his walks, he gets all excited when the lead is produced, and can trot along at a fine space. He needs to be guided a little as otherwise he will walk into poles and fall off the edge of footpaths but once kept to the centre hed give any young dog a run for his money!! If given some freedom on a retractable lead in a suitable area he loves to sniff and is as inquisitive as any other dog. He is a gentle dog who is very affectionate and will give little licks and jump up when he gets excited. He is really responding very well to attention and will make an excellent companion for some lucky person . he deserves a great forever home for the rest of his days .. and hed like to tell everyone reading this that hes quite partial to a few chips Email: info@dogactionwelfaregroup.ie Tel: 0871199977

Bono
Napoleon Bonaparte aka Bono is under 2 years of age. Hes a Patterdale terrier cross. Bono can be a little nervous of loud noises but that doesnt stop him being friendly, even to visitors. His little tail wags furiously with excitement so he resembles one of those cute walking toy dogs! He craves human contact and likes to be near you but needs encouragement to get on the sofa or lie on your lap, often preferring to just stay at your feet. I suspect that he was not kept indoors. Hes vaccinated and wormed and will be neutered soon. He gets on brilliantly with my female dog and is beginning to learn to play with toys. He sleeps all night in his crate in my room and from the second night Ive left the door open. He has not had a single accident indoors but has marked his territory a few times (always the same spot) when Ive left him unsupervised. This will disappear after neutering and with a little more time. Bono is a willing and obedient back seat passenger and also compliant with showering. Hes extremely gentle when hand-fed and shows no aggression to my own dog or during feeding. Bono is an easy, timid little dog who has settled in very well and is already forming attachments. He loves head rubs and closes his eyes in bliss. As hes gained confidence he now rolls over for tummy rubs too. Bono really looks a teddy bear when he sits down, as his back legs slump to the side. The pictures really dont do him justice. Id love to see this little general find his forever home. If you think that you can be his Josephine (or Joseph!) please get in touch via Cork Dog Action Welfare Group. Email: info@dogactionwelfaregroup.ie Tel: 0871199977

Kiefer has an amazing temperament & personality. Very loving & loyal, completely submissive, & really just the most adorable dog we've had here. It kills me to put up this ad cos I don't want to part with him! Kiefer is about 2-3 years old, probably a Fox Terrier mix, fine with bitches, scared of the ones who are or in his face, not great with males. He can't get enough of the cuddles, the more people fussing over him the better! He'll happily sit on your lap & rest his chin on your chest & stare into your eyes... he's very sweet. Less than knee height. Can't be let offlead at all...he has terrible recall! Lovely companion for someone lucky! Neutered, flea/worm treated, & fully vaccinated.

Rocco
(formerly Xavier) is a 12 mth old Rottweiler. His foster says Its a real treat to have him as part of our family. He gets on like a house on fire with our two dogs, especially Tilly. Hes just a huge cuddly bear who loves getting attention. He is a dream to take for walks, he just trots along beside you and pays no heed at all to passing dogs. We do use a muzzle when out in public, only for legal reasons though as he definitely does not need to have one on otherwise. He met his first cat the other day and just walked straight past which was brilliant. If he could get away with it hed sleep on our bed every night but has adapted well to sleeping in the kitchen with the dogs. He is fantastic with our two young children, he never shows any signs of aggression towards them whatsoever. I can safely say that Rocco is a truly wonderful dog with a heart of gold. He deserves a happy ending, I really hope he gets one soon.

Dougal
Dougal is a German Shepherd Cross and is approximately 10 months old, he is very affectionate and loyal. He is very gentle with children, his initial welcoming can be over excited but he quickly calms once he has said hello. He loves to play ball and fetch. His main area that needs concentrating on is his socialisation. He is good on the lead just his initial reaction to new experiences and in particular at the moment other dogs needs work. His barking is something I feel is down to him being anxious at new experiences and not knowing how to react to other dogs sometimes. It may come across as aggressive to others to but he will listen and respond to commands even in this heightened state of excitement. It is something he will improve on with the regular and consistent training, with someone who is able to offer the support and time. When he has been with us to visit friends who have dogs he has been fine. It is is an area that he will definitely improve on.

Jessie
Meet Jessie a young terrier x. We dont know much about her past but she was very fearful to begin with. But plenty of TLC and patience later, she has come along way..and now i think it would do her good to have a home to call her own..She is no trouble at all really and just potters around after you. She loves human contact, rubs and cuddles on the couch. Afterwards she will lick your hand or arm in return as she is a very Loving girl. Jessie gets on fine with the other dogs but she loves our bigger dog ben..they chase and play all day together, and in the evening they love nothing better than to sit up on the back of the couch and look out the window.. She doesnt mind the Cats coming and going either. Jessie can get nervous in the dark..and can be very alert..((maybe she was kept in the dark and its her defense))??..so we reassure her..that we are here and its ok..and she will go bk to sleep..:)..so a little Patience ..is needed for Jessie. A home with older children or no children would suit Jessie. Email: info@dogactionwelfaregroup.ie Tel: 0871199977

Polly
Polly is a very nervous little jack russell girl. My opinion is she has never had a family but if she did then she was given no attention from them and has learned to survive on her own. She just longs to be a part of a family. She would be an ideal pet but needs a lot of focus and attention. Ideally she needs another canine companion as she needs to learn her behaviour. She turns to Murphy (Bichon) for direction on everything. Her forever home will need to be ideally with a very patient person and with one who will give her the time and space for her to learn to trust again. She can not be rushed. Your reward will be a very grateful, loyal and gentle companion. Polly would suit an adult home only as she is so nervous, somewhere where she can adapt quietly. A secure garden is a must. Polly is housetrained. Email: info@dogactionwelfaregroup.ie Tel: 0871199977 Update Polly is coming on so well and has learned to trust her fosterer. she loves her foster pal and their walks on the beach together. Macy the lion heart. Macy, what can I say about Macy, other than he was known as Mason for the longest time. Macy has been chosen as a softer sound. Why Macy? Well Macys is a well known store in New York selling highly fashionable items and our Macy is a very fashionable boy. He is a terrier of mixed breed, parents unknown. That said and out of the way, Macy is laughable and lovable in equal doses. He has a quiet, bashful charm all of his own. Macy,I am convinced, believes that he is a Great Dane as not for one moment does he act like a small dog. Because he has not yet seen himself in a mirror Macy is , to his mind, big. The funny thing about this is that Macy has a big heart, not in a real sense, but in the sense that he has so much love and laughter to give and give he will. Macy loves people. He believes, although he is surrounded by dogs of all shapes and sizes, that he is far too superior to be just a dog. After all, he does have the most unusual and distinctive coat colour, far more reminiscent of a deer hound or a wolf hound than a terrier. When the sun shines on his coat it glows the most magnificent shades of red and amber and gold. Macy is a happy go lucky dog and, having been in kennels for some time now, would like to share his happiness with you. He is well behaved, knows nothing about cats and absolutely loves to greet people by placing his paws on their knees. Having done that, he starts to work with his charm. This involves looking deep into your eyes, doing his best impression of a hypnotist and trying to impress on your mind that he is the dog, your dog. This would work if for one thing and one thing only. Macy has had no visitors and so, to help Macy find his special person, the one that will take him home and love and care for the lion heart, we are appealing for you to come and meet him. He is a young dog, full of life and has so much to give. His is brimming with character and really wishes to express his joy and happiness by living in a home. He is absolutely sick to death of life in kennels and, I fear, is planning a breakout any day now. This would be disastrous, he has no road sense and would get lost. Even worse, he might be dognapped and held to ransom and how in the name of dog are we going to raise a ransom amount. No, this cant happen, so this is where you come into the story. He needs you, he needs you to keep him safe from harm, from dognappers and from cats. He needs a home. He will even live with another dog if necessary. Mo Chara Animal Rescue 087 2577182

Barney
My name is Barney Rubble and I am a very friendly young terrier cross looking for a forever home. I am currently in foster with Philana and Paul who have taught me how to be a good dog! I am very good at sitting and have learnt how to give the paw too.often I do them both together I know I look very cute and I always get the treat!!! I am learning down, stay and roll over now.its hard work but worth it for the belly rubs. I am completely housetrained now and adapt quickly to new situations having been to several socialization classes, been an ambassador for Cork DAWG adoption drives and even coped well with a couple of nights in the kennel when my foster Mum and Dad had to go on a trip without me. I get on very well with other dogs and love having a good game of chase with them. If none of my doggy pals are out, I am happy with a game of fetch with my human companions too. I AM VERY AFFECTIONATE AND SNUGGLING UP ON THE COUCH IS ONE OF MY MOST FAVOURITE PASTIMES! Jacob
Jacob the greyhound is now looking for his forever home. This boy was so withdrawn and depressed at the shelter we put up an appeal for a foster home. Thanks so much Caroline for having him and Gus who doggie sat for him. Jacob is so gentle and most grateful for anything he gets. He loves his walk a day and is happy to snooze a long while afterwards on the couch. He is housetrained and is currently in foster with 2 small dogs. We cannot say enough good things about gentle Jacob. Email: info@dogactionwelfaregroup.ie Tel: 0871199977

Calvin
Calvin was a pretty sorry sight when I met him and his brother at the shelter over 2 weeks ago. He was very badly matted, quite thin and of course I had been told he was blind. I was a bit apprehensive as Id never looked after a blind dog before, but I neednt have worried as it only took Calvin approximately 10 minutes to familiarise himself with the layout of my house. Once I led him down the steps and into the garden, led him to where the water is and brought him back in.and basically that was it.he quite happily goes in and out of the house as it suits him, of course it didnt take him long to work out how to get onto the couch or as the photo shows find his favourite chair. He has an amazing personality, everyone who meets him is blown away by him.his disability doesnt hold him back in any way and he just loves everyone he meets. Hes excellent on his walks, which he adores, never strays far from me and I just have to call him and he bounds over like the big overgrown puppy he is. Hes really found his feet and I knew he was finally settled in when he figured out that my dog Maggie was only trying to play when she offered him her toy to play tug-of-war. He now loves to play with her. He loves his food and is putting on weight, hes clean in the house apart from the odd scent marking, and once he gets his dentastick at night you dont hear a peep out of him til morning. He is a very easy dog to look after, he has loads of love to give and would quite happily sit on your lap for the day. Email: info@dogactionwelfaregroup.ie Tel: 0871199977
